Who We Are.

Camp Cherith is a co-ed, non-denominational, Christian camping ministry. We are an accredited member of the Ontario Camping Association and Christian Camping International. Camp offers campers a Christ-centred outdoor program that encourages spiritual and personal development along with skills development and a greater appreciation of God’s creation around them. Camp presents each child with the reality of Jesus Christ as the living Savior, and an opportunity to have a personal relationship with Him. Campers will have the chance during the week to learn from the Bible, and understand how it can apply it to their lives, and how they can grow as Christians.

Our Mission.

Camp Cherith Lanark operates for the purpose of providing a Christian camping program for children and youth in accordance with Pioneer Clubs’ Camp Cherith principles and standards. Its mission is to help children and youth put Christ in every aspect of life, to nurture healthy relationships, and to develop a positive self-image. Camp Cherith also accepts the mission to assist adults in understanding children and their development in order to be able to minister more effectively to them. The corporation’s chief purposes are religious, charitable and benevolent.

Camp Values.

Live All In.

Our desire is for children, youth, and adults to continually experience the joy of life and the beauty of God’s love. We are a community founded on living all in at camp and outside of camp – there is nothing greater than experiencing life together to shape, replenish, and bring growth for everyone.

Be Empowered.

We cherish the responsibility of empowering the children, youth and adults of tomorrow. Everyone grows when they are inspired, filled with purpose and motivated for change. Our camp and our leaders believe in encouraging that anything is possible. We use “Be” as an opportunity and “Empowered” as a window for change.

Built through Action.

Our actions and workmanship are what makes us dynamic, relatable, and unique. Every individual is blessed with God-given skills and abilities. Our team is an assembly of different passionate people who actively use their gifts to serve and create to make a difference in our community.

What We Believe.

Spiritual Standard

All members of the Corporation, members of the board of directors, volunteers and staff shall be those who are committed to Christ and His service and seek to manifest the kind of life expressed in Romans 12:10-12. “Be devoted to one another with mutual affection. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” (NIV)

Statement of Faith

A. We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (John 14:16-17, Matthew 28:19)

B. We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit; born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man. (Matthew 1:18-23)

C. We believe in the Scriptures of Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired by God and inerrant in the original writings, and they are of supreme and final authority in faith and life. (2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Timothy 3:16-17)

D. We believe that we were created in the image of God; that we sinned, and thereby incurred, not only physical death, but also that spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born in sin and that this sinful nature is the origin of all sinful acts in thought, word and deed. (Genesis 1:26, Romans 5:12, Isaiah 59:2-4, Romans 6:23)

E. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice; and that all who believe in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood. (Romans 5:8-9)

F. We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit, and thereby become children of God. (John 1:12, Romans 8:9)

G. We believe in the bodily resurrection of Christ and His ascension to Heaven, and in His present work as High Priest and advocate. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Hebrews 4:14-16)

H. We believe in the personal return of Jesus Christ. (Acts 1:11, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)

I. We believe in the resurrection of the just to everlasting blessedness, and the unjust to everlasting punishment. (Acts 24:15, Revelation 20:15, Romans 6:23)

J. We believe that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and should seek redemption through confession, repentance, baptism, and faith in Jesus Christ. Consequently, Camp Cherith members, directors, volunteers and staff must welcome and treat with respect, compassion, and sensitivity all who experience same-sex attractions or confess sexually immoral acts but are committed to resisting sexual temptation, refraining from sexual immorality, and conforming their behavior to Camp Cherith’s Statement of Faith. (Matthew 11:28-30, Romans 3:23, Ephesians 2:1-10, I Corinthians 10:13, Hebrews 2:17-18, Hebrews 4:14-16)

K. We believe marriage as the permanent, exclusive, comprehensive, and conjugal “one flesh” union of one man and one woman, intrinsically ordered to procreation and biological family, and in furtherance of the moral, spiritual, and public good of binding father, mother, and child. (Genesis 1:27-28, Genesis 2:18-24, Matthew 19:4-9, Mark 10:5-9, Ephesians 5:31-33)

L. We believe that sexual acts outside marriage are prohibited as sinful. Consequently, Camp Cherith members, directors, volunteers and staff must resist and refrain from any and all sexual acts outside marriage. (Exodus 20:14, Leviticus 18:7-23, Leviticus 20:10-21, 3 Deuteronomy 5:18, Matthew 15:19, Matthew 5:27-28, Matthew 15:19, Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9-13, 1 Thessalonians 4:3, Hebrews 13:4, Galatians 5:19, Ephesians 4:17-19, Colossians 3:5)

M. We believe that God created mankind in His image: male (man) and female (woman), sexually different but with equal personal dignity. Consequently, Camp Cheirth members, directors, volunteers and staff must affirm their biological sex and refrain from any and all attempts to physically change, alter, or disagree with their predominant biological sex . (Genesis 1:26-28, Romans 1:26-32, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

N. We believe that God created and ordered human sexuality to the permanent, exclusive, comprehensive, and conjugal “one flesh” union of man and woman, intrinsically ordered to procreation and biological family, and in furtherance of the moral, spiritual, and public good of binding father, mother, and child. Consequently, Camp Cherith members, directors, volunteers and staff must affirm the sexual complementarity of man and woman and resist any and all same-sex sexual attractions and refrain from any and all same-sex sexual acts . (Genesis 1:27, Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6, Mark 10:5-9, Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, Ephesians 5:25-27, Revelation 19:7-9, Revelation 21:2)

O. We believe: The Foundational Beliefs contained in this Section do not exhaust the extent of our faith. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with the final

authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of humankind, is the ultimate source of all that we believe. For purposes of doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, the Board of Directors is the Corporation’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.

Our History.

Our camp roots go back as far as 1948. Laurentian Camp Cherith was incorporated in 1969,
initially as an all-girls camp. Boys started coming to camp in 1987. For about 40 years, we
rented the campsite at Camp Kalalla, on Lac Notre Dame in Quebec. In 2008 we purchased
our own property in the Lanark Highlands – formerly the River Farm Christian Campground –
and we ran our first summer camp at the new property in 2009. We have changed a lot over the
years, but camp still has the same purpose – to tell campers about God’s provision for their
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs!
